NEVERA DE BAIX
History
DESCRIPTION
It dates from the 18th century, the height of snow commerce.
The ice house is a tank where the ice was kept and preserved. During the Autumn the surroundings of this construction were cleaned, and the first snow of the season was gathered and packed with satchels and filled through the window of the building. Inside, the workers trod it with their feet and with picks, distributed it in layers and alternated with straw. Once full, the openings were closed in order to keep it cold. The ice was transported by night and sold in local markets, and above all, supplied to the harbours such as Dénia.
