UNCLE BENET'S TAVERN

UNCLE BENET'S TAVERN

History

DESCRIPTION

This building on the corner was the Casino del Tio Benet, a place where weddings were celebrated and where people spent the evenings next to the record player.

This street was called ‘de la pelota’, as this was the location of one of the three ‘trinquetes’ (pelota courts), all of which have now disappeared. One was in the area of the town hall and another in the Vicent de la Tona bar.

Some witnesses recall an unusual architectural feature of these constructions: the one in the Benet bar was fitted with a roof made of recycled cans. It was placed a little higher than the wall overlooking the street and was left open to the air and light. The approximate date of construction of this ratchet was the 1920s.
